COMMON STEAM SHOWER ENCLOSURE QUESTIONS

How can I fit the steam shower enclosure through doorways?

A common misunderstanding is that your new steam shower enclosure will be delivered as a pre-built enclosure. To facilitate both the delivery and manoeuvrability of the enclosure it will arrive to you flat packed.

Typically, the steam shower enclosure will be delivered with the tray, four side panels and top piece not connected together. This allows the pieces to be easily moved through doorways and into your bathroom. It should be noted that some suppliers will require you to assemble each individual jet to the back panel. Other steam shower enclosure suppliers provide each individual panel with the smaller parts already pre-fabricated to make installation faster and more straight forward.

What temperature can a steam shower enclosure reach?

The humidity inside a steam shower enclosure is about 100%. This high humidity will make the same temperature inside a steam shower enclosure feel hotter than in the dry heat of a sauna. The optimum temperature to enjoy a session inside your steam shower enclosure is between 110 and 120F (43-49C). A Di Vapor steam shower has an upper steam temperature limit of 60C. Please consult with your doctor to make sure it is safe for you to use a steam room.

Where does the steam come into the shower enclosure?

A steam shower enclosure is usually supplied with water jets that will be positioned behind the users back and neck. These are commonly confused by many people as the place where the steam comes out into the enclosure. Typically, a steam shower enclosure will have a single steam outlet that will be located near the bottom and on the panel facing the rear wall.

Where is the steam generator installed?

In modern steam shower enclosures the steam generator will come pre-connected to the rear of the enclosure. The steam generator does not need to be located in another room, which eliminates the need to drill pipe holes through a wall to access the steam generator. It should also be noted that the steam generator is usually recessed on the back of the enclosure so it fits completely within the enclosures sizing footprint.

How do I extract the steam from my bathroom?

As with any shower room, ventilation is an important consideration. A steam shower enclosure will produce large amounts of moisture within the enclosure. When the doors of the enclosure are opened some water vapour will escape into your bathroom and condense. Therefore, it is advisable that your bathroom has a window that can be opened or an extraction fan to help remove moisture from the air. It is also recommend to:
  • Shower off after having your steam session - a lot of the steam will quickly condense back to water as the water passes through the steam.
  • Close the doors after you exit the enclosure - steam will be trapped inside the enclosure and will soon cool and condense back to water before draining away.
  • Vent when the bathroom has poor ventilation - Some enclosures have an extraction fan that can be vented out through an external wall.
